What is Rubber Playground Flooring?

EPDM, P-I-P or Poured-in-place rubber playground surfacing is an excellent low-maintenance, colorful, safe and wheelchair accessible playground surface Poured-in-place rubber surfacing is a seamless surface formed with a two-layer system consisting of a wear layer of EPDM and a cushion layer of SBR that provides the shock absorption. The materials are bound together with a glue, or binder, and the product is poured and troweled in place like a concrete. It can be installed on crushed stone, concrete or asphalt.

Is Rubber Playground Surfacing Available in Different Colors?

Poured-in-place, (PIP) is available in a variety of patterns and colors. This is one of the best features outside of the safety of the surfacing, considering it takes what should be a functional component of the play area, the fall cushioning, and turns it into a play component with the addition of shapes, and changes to the colors. Varying the color options also allows you to accentuate or differentiate the play areas which is recommended for kids of varying ages and abilities. We recommend with an area of 2,000 sf or more to use at least two different color blends.

What is the highest playground we can have with rubber playground flooring?

Our PIP is fall rated up to 12’ high.

What kind of maintenance is required for rubber playground flooring?

Maintenance includes periodic cleaning or blowing off of large debris. Examine the surfacing regularly for excessive wearing, spidering, cracking and peeling. Budget an additional $1.25 per square foot for reapplication of the binding agent (reseal) to the wear cap, to extend the life of the product. Do not allow sand or other fine debris to coat the rubber surfacing because it will fill the voids and pockets that provide the safety cushion and make the surfacing harder upon impact.

How much does Poured-in-place Rubber Playground Surfacing Cost?

Prices typically range from $8 to $14 per square foot installed with a standard sub-base of compacted stone aggregate. Additional costs may be incurred with thicker material for higher fall heights, additional drainage, or patterns and custom color selections.

What is the Warranty for Rubber Playground Flooring?

Our warranty is 5 years on the installed product, however, many installations have been in place for a decade.
